Nap time is wonderful, isn’t it? Once you work out the kinks of course. Your child goes into their room and you get peace for a few hours every afternoon. Sadly, this time eventually comes to an end. But how do you know when to eliminate naps completely? It is a big decision to drop to no naps at all. And it isn’t something you want to take lightly, because it is tough to go back once kids have tasted the freedom of the no nap life. There are many ways to tell if your child is ready and there are several ways to go about dropping to no naps.
As we continue our look at all things sleep this week Katrina from Mama’s Organized Chaos is investigating just this issue- when do you get rid of naps? She has some readiness signs and methods to implement as well. Be sure to check out her post: How To Know If Your Child Is Ready To Drop To No Naps.
Personally, we moved Ben to rest time instead of getting rid of that afternoon block entirely. It has worked really well for us. Ben still has the same rest time as Ali and Sammy, but he doesn’t have to sleep. He does end up falling asleep most days, which I think shows you can have a child that needs nap all the way until age five and beyond! Don’t let just your child’s age make the nap decisions for you.
